The GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program)

The GIMP is the GNU (a free, open source, Creative Commons license program) alternative to Adobe Photoshop. It is designed as an open source software, and has a user community that supports it and keeps it up to date. Its design incorporates the way most people like to work: with images in layers, thereby enabling you to see your image as a whole before and after editing. The GIMP was not designed with professional image editing in mind and does not attempt to be as feature-rich as Adobe Photoshop, but rather is designed to offer a basic capability to help with image creation.

There are tutorials and a few books on GIMP. See Appendix A, starting on page 294, for more on it.

The graphics file formats for Photoshop are PSD and PSB and Photoshop Elements supports both, as well as EPS, PDF and GIF images. Some popular graphics editing software is based on the same technology or inspired by the creativity of Photoshop, including Adobe Pagemaker and Adobe Illustrator. The file formats for Photoshop Elements are PSE and PSB, and Adobe Illustrator is available as an add-on for Photoshop Elements.

History of Photoshop

The name Photoshop was coined by Michael Gornick, vice president of consumer products at Adobe.

And the name Photoshop was created to reduce the number of often confused names like Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop Graphic. It’s an homage to the digital darkroom. In its early days, people typically printed film images, then made adjustments in the darkroom before going back to the printer.

Back in the 1990s, Photoshop was a graphics program that was mainly used by professionals. It’s expensive software and required a lot of training before many people could use it effectively. Adobe only continued to develop it for professionals, and released a student version in 1998 that was based on the more popular Page Maker.

In the 2000s, though, Adobe started to innovate the interface to make it more accessible to beginners. The interface used by students and beginners was called Lightroom, and Adobe still called it that.

By 2006, Lightroom was ready for prime time and was launched as a relatively inexpensive alternative to Photoshop. It didn’t replace Photoshop, but it worked well as a supplement to Photoshop.

Adobe has continued to improve Photoshop, but not to the point where it’s a stand-alone alternative to Lightroom. Instead, Adobe has added new features to Photoshop and made Photoshop work more like the other Adobe products. This is why Photoshop has become more affordable and easier to use.

Adobe Photoshop Basics

Adobe Photoshop can work with various file types, but most users typically work with images in a specific type of file format known as the Photoshop file format. The Photoshop file format is native to the program, meaning that it’s the most commonly used file format for Photoshop.

Adobe also supports other file formats to enable compatibility with other software. For example, Photoshop Elements supports a PDF, EPS, and PSB file formats. The.psd format is shared between Adobe programs for the same reason, but it’s Adobe’s own format that must be used in Photoshop.

“The defendants are accused of lying about what they were shipping, and creating false shipping documents to evade law enforcement and consignees. This case is part of a larger Department of Justice investigation that disrupts the operations of counterfeiters in multiple countries,” said Assistant Attorney General Leslie R. Caldwell of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division and U.S. Attorney Dana J. Boente of the Eastern District of Virginia.

According to the indictment, between November 2011 and May 2012, the defendants worked in a counterfeiting ring in which they allegedly manufactured and shipped counterfeit and pirated computer accessories from China and used deceptive shipping labels to pass them off as legitimate merchandise. Specifically, the defendants allegedly bought and shipped thousands of fake Bluetooth and Wi-Fi cables, touch pads, mouse pads, docks, and docking stations to retailers in the United States, Canada, and elsewhere. The charged company allegedly shipped hundreds of these counterfeit products to places in the United States including Maryland, Virginia, Minnesota, and Texas. Some of the products allegedly were shipped to stores in the District of Columbia and Florida and ultimately ended up in the hands of consumers.

The defendants are charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering. They were arrested on May 9, 2012 and are scheduled to appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge Dennis L. Bell in the Eastern District of Virginia.
